The program Majlis Silaturahim with YAB MB Selangor was organized by PAS Bukit Jelutong on the 26th April 2008.
One of the most important issue raised was Security. Despite all the facilities and security personnel engaged in Bukit Jelutong, the residents still feel UNSECURED.
One of the main reasons cited was the existence of foreign workers within Bukit Jelutong and in the neighbouring area. i.e Taman Bukit Cerakah.
It is not the duty of the Government to provide Security for the Rakyat?
The ADUN quickly pointed out the new State Government is planning to impose a RM 9.00 levy on all foreign workers in Selangor. (Estimated around 1.2 million of them in Selangor alone). The fund will be utilize to register all foreign workers (via thumb print), and identified their location of stay/work. Only registered workers will be allowed within the registered area. Any violation will result in stern action taken against them.
They are also exploring the possibility of housing all workers within certain area. Just like in Dubai whereby all foreign workers are designated in certain area. In short, to create their own “kampong” with all the necessary amenities and some form of monitoring by the government. Again the idea is not as easy as it looks like as they then might have to create different kampong for different clan, the Florest and Aceh and Madura would not be able to live together in a kampong without "slaughtering" each other... (so they say..)
In the meantime, it will be the normal stop gap measures, to instruct police to conduct more patrolling, frequent visits and monitoring the kongis and request the residents to be more vigilant.
On the RA part, soon we’re commissioning 3 more guardhouse, in Jeriji, Lagenda 2 and in Kubah (near D’Bayu). We’re also expecting approval to Bidai Guardhouse soon, the only approval for a guardhouse to be built on the island at the centre of the road instead by the roadside. If we do get this approval, it is another indication that MBSA are now more willing to bend the rules to suit the current needs.
